Basically there are two types of tracking devices for cars. The first type is the so called passive tracking system. This device will be removed and the data downloaded once the vehicle arrives in the predetermined destination. The data usually is downloaded to a computer either for evaluation purpose or another purpose.The second type of tracking devices for cars is the active tracking system. Basically the device works in the same way of the passive one, the only difference being the data can be transmitted via satellite or cellular in almost real time.

This kind of technology usually is used by fleet operators to do functions like fleet routing, tracking, dispatching and most importantly security. This tracking device can be really helpful to maintain a schedule. There is another application for this kind of technology where you can monitor the behavior of the driver. This kind of function is especially beneficial for a parent who has teen driver.

Usually, this kind of technology can also be used to recover a theft vehicle. In the case that your vehicle gets stolen, the tracking unit in the vehicle can be activated and the tracking signals can be followed. Another use of this kind of technology is for asset tracking.
